International Film Awardee Suchutra Sen Passed Away

  • Indian actress Suchutra Sen passed away on 17 January, 2014 in kolkata.
  • She was acted in several Bengali and six Hindi films.
  • Suchitra Sen made her debut in films with “Shesh Kothaay” in 1952, but it never released.
  • She acted in over 50 movies from 1952 to 1978, her Bengali melodramas and romances, especially with Uttam Kumar, made her the most famous Bengali actress for ever.
  • Suchitra Sen had married Dibanath Sen in 1947; and had one daughter Munmun Sen, who is former actress.
  • After released her last movie, she withdrew herself from public life and did not meet people except her family members.
  • She won her first national award in year 1955 for hindi film Devdas ; which was her first hindi movies.
  • Suchitra Sen’s international success came in 1963, when she won the best actress award at the Mascow International Film Festival for the movie Saat Paake Bandha, and she became the first Indian actress who receives an international film award.
  • In 1972 , she was awarded the Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian awards in India.
  • In 2005, Suchitra Sen refused the Dada Sheb Phalke Award, the highest cinematic award in India.
  • In 2012, she was awarded the highest honour : Banga Bibushan, by West Bengal government.
